Moonwater: Capturing Lunar Energy

What is Moonwater?

At its core, Moonwater is simply water that has been charged by the light of the moon. Water is a natural conductor of energy; by exposing it to specific lunar phases, you “program” the water with the intentions and celestial qualities of that phase. It is one of the most versatile tools in a witch’s cupboard.

How to Make Moonwater

Making Moonwater is a practice in patience and intention. While many prefer the Full Moon for its peak power, you can create it during any phase depending on your goal.
1. Select your vessel: Use a glass jar or bottle. Clear glass is best to allow the light to penetrate.
2. Cleanse the container: Use smoke (like cedar or incense) or sound (a bell) to clear any lingering energies from the jar.
3. Fill with water: Use fresh spring water or filtered water.
4. Set your intention: Hold the jar and whisper your goal into the water.
5. Charge: Place the jar outside or on a windowsill where it will be bathed in moonlight.

Note: Be sure to bring the water inside before the sun touches it, as sunlight can “clear” the specific lunar charge you just gathered.

Common Uses for Moonwater

* Ritual Cleansing: Add it to your bath or use it to wash your altar space.
* Watering Plants: Give your indoor garden a magical boost.
* Anointing: Use a drop on your third eye to enhance intuition before divination.
* Brewing: (If using potable water) Use it as a base for ritual teas or potions.

Ritual: The “Silver Reflection” Divination

This ritual uses Moonwater to thin the veil and sharpen your psychic “sight” during a tarot or scrying session.

Moonwater Ritual

Ingredients

* 1 bowl (Silver, white, or clear glass)
* Moonwater (Charged during a Full Moon)
* 1 Silver coin or a piece of Moonstone
* 1 White candle

The Steps

1. Set the Space: Light your white candle and dim the other lights in the room.
2. Pour the Water: Gently pour your Moonwater into the bowl, focusing on the sound of the ripples.
3. Anchor the Energy: Drop the silver coin or moonstone into the bottom of the bowl. Say: “As the moon reflects the sun, let this water reflect the truth.”
4. The Scry: Gaze into the surface of the water. Don’t strain your eyes; let them go slightly out of focus.
5. The Interpretation: Ask your question aloud. Observe any images that form in the reflections or use the heightened energy to begin your tarot pull.
