Understanding the Elder Futhark

The Elder Futhark consists of 24 stones (or tiles) divided into three groups of eight, known as Aetts. Each Aett is governed by a Norse deity and represents a different stage of human and spiritual development:

Heimdall’s Aett: Focuses on change, adversity, and internal growth.

Traditional casting involves “scattering” the runes onto a white cloth. Focus on a specific question, reach into your rune pouch, and let the stones fall. Those that land face-up are the primary messages for your current situation.

Decision-Making Spreads

For structured guidance, try these layouts:

* The Three-Rune Pull: Represents Urd (The Past/Origins), Verthandi (The Present/Becoming), and Skuld (The Future/Potential).


* The Crossroads Spread: Draw two runes. The first represents the path of “Action” and its likely outcome; the second represents the path of “Stillness” or waiting.
